Year 6-7 Transition

If you have a place to join us then this is where your journey starts. We have lots of activities and events planned to help our new students get to know their new school, new teachers and new friends. We can't wait to meet you and welcome you to Hope Valley College!

What have we got planned?

1 March is National Offer Day. Families will receive an email from their local authority to let them know at which secondary school they are being offered a place. For online applications, this information is also available online. From that point, we offer a series of opportunities for our new students and their parents and carers to get to know their new school.

Welcome pack: March

During March, we will email families with details of the transition activities that we have planned. In the meantime, please have a look around our website, to which we've added lots of information and videos to help you to get a feel for all that awaits our new students at Hope Valley College.

Visits to Primary Schools: March to June

The Year 7 transition team work hard to visit all the primary schools to meet our new students and help prepare them for their move to Hope Valley College.

SEND Coffee Morning (by invitation)

This is an opportunity for us to invite parents/carers of children with an EHCP or who are on the SEND register to meet our SEND team, learn about the support available and ask any questions about inclusion at Hope Valley.

Transition Day: Thursday 3 July 2025

All of our new Year 7 students are invited in to Hope Valley College to spend a day with us to learn about their new school, meet their teachers and other new students.  They will have the chance to have lunch in our fantastic restaurant and take part in activities throughout the day.  The day runs from 9.00am–3.30pm.

Welcome evening: Thursday 3 July 2025

Parents and carers are invited into school during the evening to find out more about life for their children at Hope Valley.  The evening runs from 5.30–6.15pm, with a uniform shop available from 5.00pm.

First day of school: Monday 8 September 2025

On their first day of school, students will be given support to access their lessons and their new timetable, as well as spending time getting to know their tutor.
