Reading
The library at Hope Valley College has been at the heart of the school, both educationally and geographically, since HVC opened in 1958. During that time it has been, and continues to be used by all departments, students and staff. It provides a learning centre with a vast stock of fiction, non-fiction and reference books, a suite of computers for work and research and a bank of teaching resources for staff.
Small groups of students often work in the library, either independently or with a member of staff, and all Year 7s and 8s have a weekly timetabled library lesson using Accelerated Reader to encourage and develop their reading. The library is also a social hub where students can meet and relax and take part in out-of-lesson activities such as book groups, lunchtime films, games and competitions. A team of enthusiastic library helpers assists the librarian with keeping the place in order at breaks and lunchtimes.
Since the school first opened, the library has continued to grow and develop, and during the summer of 2018, the PTFA funded its total refurbishment, supported by top library design company DEMCO. Students now have a bright, airy flexible space open to them, and the library offers a warm, comfortable place for meetings and gatherings after school.

We are very proud of our library and the value seen in it by Hope Valley College.
